Florida Bill Requires Minority Interviews for Coaching Positions

Rep. Richard Steinberg, D-Miami Beach, introduced a bill this year that would have required state universities and colleges to interview qualified minority candidates before hiring head coaches or athletic directors. Subsequently he found that the University of Florida's Board of Governors actually has the authority to implement such a rule, and he is encouraging them to do so.

While Athletic Director Jeremy Foley did not respond to a request for comment, UF athletic association spokesman Steve McClain said in a written statement that the program is in no position to advocate for or against the proposal but supports diversity. To read more, click here.
