Judge Says JMU Liable for Damages in Hiring Marist Coach
A New York Supreme Court judge has found that James Madison University committed tortious interference with Marist's employment contract with basketball coach Matt Brady and are liable for damages. Brady was under contract when JMU recruited him to become its coach.
In the suit filed against James Madison, Virginia and Brady on July 20, 2009, Marist alleged the coach had illegal contact with James Madison while he was still under contract and illegal contact with Marist recruits after taking his new job as James Madison's men's basketball coach.
