Baseball's Advisor, but No Negotiation Rule Explored in Wake of Settlement
Pat Borzi of the New York Times reviews the lack of clarity around the NCAA's rule allowing advisors for baseball student-athletes, but prohibiting them from entering negotiations in the aftermath of a settlement by the NCAA with a former Oklahoma State pitcher.
Oliver, 22, a left-hander who pitched for Oklahoma State, sued the N.C.A.A. after the university suspended him in 2008 for allegedly allowing a legal adviser to negotiate a contract with the Minnesota Twins two years earlier. The settlement in his case has left other players, as well as parents, advisers and college coaches and administrators, more unsettled than ever. To read more, click here.
