Maturi Stepping Down as Gophers' AD

Joel Maturi said Thursday morning that he is retiring as the University of Minnesota’s athletics director as of June 30 and will remain with the school as an assistant to President Eric Kaler, the Star Tribune reported.

Rutgers hired long-time assistant Kyle Flood as football coach after Florida International's Mario Cristobal turned the offer down. Flood was promoted to assistant head coach in 2008. Flood, 41, will be formally introduced as Rutgers’ football coach at a news conference Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., the school announced.

Tim Cluess has been given a contract extension through 2016-17 by the Iona Gaels. Last season he guided the Gaels to a 25-win campaign. This season Iona has already posted 17 wins and is 9-2 in the MAAC.

Bobby Cremins' assistant says the veteran basketball coach hasn't looked well the past few weeks and Friday evening the College of Charleston announced Cremins will miss the rest of the season because of a medical problem, the Associated Press reported.

Miami Extends Hoops Coach

The university announced it has agreed to a three-year contract extension with Coach Jim Larranaga that will keep him with the Hurricanes through April 2019. The contract extensions for Golden and Larranaga are in part a consequence from the Nevin Shapiro scandal and an ensuing NCAA investigation.

Rutgers AD Tim Pernetti said the search for Rutgers' next head coach is underway and that it's "doable" that Greg Schiano's replacement will be in position by Wednesday's National Signing Day. Pernetti emphasized the importance of maintaining the recruiting class built by Schiano, considered the best incoming class in school history.
