Petersburg, VA - Virginia State University has announced the hiring of Jason Jackson as the new Men’s & Women’s Cross-Country and Track & Field Head Coach. Jackson takes over a program that placed third in the 2009 CIAA Cross-Country Championship but won the Championship in 2008.

Over the years Virginia Tech has benefited greatly from the stable leadership of football coach Frank Beamer and AD Jim Weaver. Both are slated to work together through 2015. Weaver is coming off of back surgery and suffers from Parkinson's, but he indicated that he intends to work until he turns 70.

Abbott played football at Harvard and has been serving as chief of staff for Senator Susan Collins. Abbott practiced law in Maine following his graduation from the University of Maine Law School.
