NCAA Alleges Major Violations at West Virginia
West Virginia announced that the NCAA has sent to it a list of five potential major rules violations that began under Rich Rodriguez's watch and continued for two years under his successor, Bill Stewart. The violations are similar to what occurred under Rodriguez at Michigan.
West Virginia impermissibly used noncoaching graduate assistants, staff members and student managers for football-specific coaching duties. The same noncoaching personnel supervised or conducted workouts during the off season. Not only Rodriguez, but also Stewart and the athletic department, failed to monitor what was going on. The two coaches also are accused of failing "to promote an atmosphere of compliance within the football program,'' presumably because of the specific violations. To read more, click here.
