Knight Commission's Friday Criticizes College Sports
The News Observer reported that former University of North Carolina President William Friday said collegiate sports were a vibrant part of the American university scene 20 years ago but have become an entertainment industry manipulated by television with a dangerous win-at-all-costs culture. UNC is under investigation for NCAA rules violations in its football program.
That was Friday's reaction. Despite UNC's troubles, Friday said North Carolinians should be proud that Baddour, university chancellor Holden Thorp and departing UNC system chancellor Erskine Bowles acted swiftly and decisively.
