This position is responsible for the overall leadership, organization and supervision of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports and United States Olympic Education Center. Lead a management team of professional staff with a primary goal of establishing a clear vision for athletics and recreation that is consistent with the mission and priorities of the University.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Sports Administration or related discipline. Five years' work experience in intercollegiate athletic administration, recreational sports management and sports facilities management. Ability to accurately and efficiently perform required computerized tasks to include any combination of spreadsheets, data base, email, internet and web-based applications. No major NCAA rules violations.
Knowledge/skills/abilities required: Excellent oral and written communications. Aptitude for identifying entrepreneurial opportunities and capitalizing on revenue-generating ideas. Demonstrated ability to project a positive and professional image in an intercollegiate athletic environment as well as a university service area. Excellent decision making and conflict resolution skills. Ability to work in stressful situations. Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner. Knowledge of NCAA/Conference/NMU rules, policies or procedures. Knowledge of budget and financial management practices. Passionately engaged in creating positive student-athlete experiences. Persistent enthusiasm for a wide variety of sports.
The salary is commensurate with experience. The work schedule is generally consistent with University operating hours, but varied based on the demands of the athletic program schedule, fund-raising requirements, and other leadership obligations.
